Arc4life Cervical Linear Traction Neck Pillow

The Cervical Traction Neck Pillow

Looking for a Neck Pillow for Neck Pain and Stiffness?

What makes the Arc4life Traction Neck Pillow America's #1 Neck Pillow
For Better Sleep and Better Posture?

What Makes the Arc4ife Traction Pillow Ideal
If you have difficulty sleeping at night because of neck pain, then you may want to try our Arc4Life Cervical Traction Neck Pillow. Our neck pillow has helped patients who suffer from stiff neck, headaches, tight neck muscles and muscle spasms. This pillow also helps with patients who have a military neck or no curve in their cervical spine, including patients who have a reversal of the cervical curve.

This Pillow Helps with Neck Posture
Having poor neck posture can lead to forward head posture. The cervical traction neck pillow along with a proper traction protocol can help to allow one to have the proper C Curve in the neck. Also this pillow helps if you have a straightened spine (no curve) and also if you don't have enough of a curve in the c spine.

The Right Pillow to Use if You Don't Have  Curve in Your Neck
If you have been diagnosed with a military spine, that means that you do not have the proper c curve in  your neck. The Arc4life Cervical Traction Neck Pillow can be beneficial to someone who has been diagnosed with this. Use the traction V side of the pillow to gently stretch your c spine and maintain the cervical curve. Many patients do neck traction during the day for 10-15 minutes and then use the arc4life traction pillow at night to maintain the proper curvature in the neck. Another great idea is to do postural exercises to get the right curve in your neck.

Relief for a Pinched Nerve in the Neck
If you have been diagnosed with a herniated disc or a bulging disc in the neck, the traction pillow is the right neck pillow to use. It also works for patients who have spinal stenosis, neck arthritis, or neck degeneration.

This Pillow Has Two Major Functions
The Arc4life Traction Pillow can be used for support and traction. It not only supports your neck in the right position, but it also gives your neck a gentle stretch while sleeping. Use the Neck Roll for Support, use the V side of the Pillow for Neck Traction.

I Love This Pillow.

I love this pillow. If you lie on your back and put your head in the middle with the pillow positioned so that the seems for a T (like how it is in the picture) it provides great neck support. If that does start to fill uncomfortable you can rotate the pillow so that the T is upside down, and it will feel like a regular pillow without neck support. Also, each of the sides are very comfortable for side sleeping.

Worth Every Penny

I love it! I was literally using 5 pillows every night, switching intermittently, and still not having a good night sleep and waking up with a sore neck. From the first night I used this pillow, it lasted the whole night. I woke up without the neck pain for the first time in 36 years (since my whiplash) that I can remember. I have used it about 10 days now and it has so far continued to be a neck saver. Thank you, Arc4life
p.s. I am starting with the shallow side, more comfortable-less traction and gradually working on increasing the deep-traction side a little at a time, before I go to sleep.

Arc4life Pillow Worked 5/5

More Restful Sleep

I've had a neck condition for about a decade. This pillow has allowed me to get more sleep through the night. It took a little while to adjust to the pillow (e.g., having to stay in better alignment while in bed), but once I adjusted, I noticed less stiff necks and more restful sleep, once I get up.
-Joel Wilson (Springfield, MA), January 31, 2013

Felt the difference the first night...

I liked the pillow so much that I bought more for gifts for a couple of people who also have neck pain. It supports the head and neck very well at night. I take it with me when I travel, and would not want to sleep without it.

After Months/years of neck pain, numbness & tingling in arms

After months/years of neck pain, numbness and tingling in arms and shoulder pain, I was desperate for relief. I had tried some other cervical pillows but none seemed to make a difference. I was very hesitant to pay the price asked for this pillow but figured pain free sleep would be worth it. I noticed a difference after the first night. I used the traction side for just a bit right before going to bed and then flip it over to use the other side for the rest of the night. I sleep on both my back and my side and it is comfortable and effective either way. Now I think I will probably be buying one for my spouse.
-Jeanine Botkin (Harrisonburg, VA United States), September 28, 2012

My neck was always stiff...

I think this pillow is fantastic. my neck was always stiff and hurting in the morning. It is super comfortable for all sleep positions. would highly recommend.

What is the purpose of Using a Contoured Neck Pillow?

Understand Why We Need to Use a Cervical Neck Pillow. Why using a pillow is better than no pillow at all.

Neck Pain Can come in many forms: Stiffness, numbness and tingling in the upper extremity, achiness, soreness, muscle spasm and tightness. When nerves that innervate the neck have pressure on them, it can lead to the above neck symptoms. Getting rid of this interference is the key. One way to get rid of this interference is to hhave proper alignment in the neck: If we look at a neck spine from the front, it should be straight up and down. From the Side there should be a "C" curve. Having this proper curvature, allows the body to withstand pressure such as gravity pushing down on us- allowing us to complete our activities of daily living.

For what Conditions Can this Pillow Be Used for?

There are many conditions that this neck pillow works well for:

  • herniated disc in the neck
  • bulging disc in the neck
  • arthritis in the neck
  • degeneration in the neck
  • loss of neck curvature (also known as military spine)
  • reversal of the neck curvature (sometimes know as an S Shaped neck curve)
  • spinal stenosis
  • occiptal neuralgia
  • pinched nerve in the neck
  • numbness and tingling in the arms and the hands
  • weakness in the upper extremity
  • stiff neck
  • muscle spasm
  • aching neck
  • muscle sprain and muscle strain

What symptoms Will the Cervical Traction Neck Pillow treat:

  • muscle spasm (ex: subocciptials, cervical paraspinals)
  • numbness and tingling in the neck, upper arms, fingers
  • muscle weakness in the neck, upper arms, fingers
  • shoulder pain
  • upper back pain
  • change in sensation of the neck, upper arms, fingers
  • neck stiffness
  • achiness in the neck
  • muscle soreness in the neck
  • limited range of motion in the neck
  • pain with certain neck movements
  • poor neck posture such as forward head posture
  • muscle tightness

What does a Pinched Nerve in the Neck Look Like?

Look to Ones Neck Posture to Tell the Story of Neck Pain

With Neck Pain, Look to the Spine First (look at your posture)

One way to look at what the spine looks like inside, one of the first things we can do is look at one's neck posture. One common neck posture that can cause a lot of problems is forward head posture, also known as anterior hhead carriage. I am sure you can pick out a person on the street: their head is carried forward of their body. the ears are forward of the shoulders when you view their posture from the side. Forward head posture puts tremendous amount of pressure on our neck spine. Research has shown us that for every inch that the head is shifted forward, it increases the downward pressure on the head by ten additional pounds-the weight of a bowling ball.

The Two Important Parts of the Cervical Traction Neck Pillow

The softer part of the traction pillow is also called the neck roll part of the pillow. It is softer side of the pillow, and often recommended as the first part to sleep on, especiall you have a lot of sensitivity in the neck. This part of the pillow works to support the neck spine. As we mentioned above having proper neck alignment is important:  The support side of the traction pillow helps to acheive and maintain this optimal neck alignment.

The Two Parts of the Arc4life Pillow

There are two sides to the arc4life pillow: the support side and the traction side.

Neck Traction to Open up spaces to Remove Nerve Interference

One of the features of the traction neck pillow that make it unique is the traction V Side of the pillow. The function of this traction part is to give your neck a gentle stretch. This works to open up the spaces between the vertrabra, allowing pressure to be taken off of the cervical nerves, if there is interferece. This gentle vertical stretch can be very beneficial and can provide tremendous pain relief.

When Do I have to Replace My Neck Pillow?

There is no shelf life to the pillow. It may last for a few months or a few years.

As with any fiber support neck pillow, the traction pillow also does break down after a while. While there is no shelf life to the pillow, for some people the pillow lasts a few months, for others a few years. There are other fiber pillows that we sell on at the Neck Pain Relief Shop that will last longer simply because they have more fiber inserted into them. Once such example is the tricore family of neck pillows. The tri core support pillow  is also a contoured fiber filled neck pillow that is very firm to the touch. While some people love a firm pillow, for others this can cause extra discomfort, soreness and pain. This pillow will last for a few years, because there are more fibers in this neck pillow (it is more dense).

Because our pillow is not as firm as some other fiber pillows, it is more comfortable. There is "give" to the pillow. Many of our customers that order this pillow do because of some type of neck condition such as:
  • herniated disc in the neck
  • bulging disc in the neck
  • degeneration in the neck
  • arthritis in the neck
Conditions such as these can cause a lot of neck pain, discomfort and pain with simple movements. Thus in situations like these, a firm pillow will not work. In fact, it can make the pain worse. Again, some people prefer a firm pillow, and that is what will work for them.

As a side note, one way to prolong the life of your traction neck pillow, is to use a dust cover with the pillow.

Does the Cervical Traction Pillow Come in a Firm Support?

YES, the traction pillow comes in an EXTRA FIRM level of support.

As a special order item, we have recently added the Extra Firm Arc4life Cervical Traction Neck Pillow. This pillow has approximately 25% more fiber in than the regular Cervical Traction Neck Pillow. The pillow is a medium size pillow: 20" x 26". The amount of fiber is equal to the amount of fiber in the Large Traction Pillow. The 25% fiber is distributed throughout the pillow, making it much more firm than the standard traction neck pillow. This pillow may not be everyone. While some people love a firm pillow, for others this can cause extra discomfort, soreness and pain. This more firm pillow will last longer than a standard fiber pillow, because there are more fibers in this neck pillow (it is more dense). There is less "give" to this pillow. Again, this pillow will work for a patient with:
  • herniated disc in the neck
  • bulging disc in the neck
  • degeneration in the neck
  • arthritis in the neck
  • spinal stenosis
As a side note, one way to prolong the life of your traction neck pillow, is to use a dust cover with the pillow.

Please note that this Extra Firm cervical traction neck pillow is a special order item at the Neck Pain Relief Shop.  This neck pillow is made special in our sewing department, on an as needed basis. Therefore, the shipping time will be slightly longer. Also, the pillow is not refundable. Before ordering, please note this before purchasing.

Can I sleep on my Side and my Back with this Pillow?

Yes, you can sleep on your side and on your back.

We get this question quite a bit. With the traction neck pillow, you can can sleep on your side and on your back. This pillow is great if you do a lot of shuffling while you sleep.

Keep in mind that for maximum neck traction with this pillow, you should sleep on your back on the traction V Side of the neck pillow.

If you ONLY sleep on your side, consider the Sleepright Side Sleeping Neck Pillows. There are composed of foam and come in various sizes.

Sleeping on Your Side and Sleeping On Your Back

Using Too Many Pillows Vs No Pillow. Which is better?

Getting the right neck support is important when using any neck pillow. Using no pillow is not the answer. Using too many pillows is not the answer either.

First, You are Getting ZERO support in the neck if you use No pillow.

There is a natural neck curve that your cervical spine has that allows for optimal alignment and correct neck posture. This "C" curve is allowed to be in tact when you use either the traction or the support side of this neck pillow.

Utilizing too many pillows can be extremely discomforting.

How many times have I heard a customer with this issue? Too many times. Using too many pillows can be the cause of a major stiff neck the next morning. Add in a probable headache and muscle spasms as well. Propping up your head with pillow after pillow does not give your neck the support that it needs. In fact, it cranks the head forward, causing forward head posture.

Does the Cervical Traction Pillow Take a while to adjust to?

Two Ways to Get Used to this New Neck Pillow:

For most of our customers, they can use the neck pillow the whole night through with no issues. However, this does not apply to everyone- especially those with a lot of sensitivity in their neck.
  1. Begin by only sleeping on the traction pillow for a short amount of time
So start by using the pillow for less than an hour. If you feel your neck muscles tightening up, just go back to the pillow you usually use. The next night, use the traction pillow for a longer time.
  2. Begin by using the Neck roll side of the pillow - the side opposite the V
The neck roll side of the pillow is softer than the traction side, making it more come comfortable for some people. Hence, try sleeping on the support side first, than gradually begin to use the traction side. Some of our customers like the support side so much, they only use the support side.

I suffer from tension Headaches....

This pillow works very well! I suffer from tension headaches and would frequently wake up with headaches because of the position of my neck during sleep. The headaches were really affecting my quality of life. It took a few days to get used to though. My neck and upper back muscles were a bit sore the first few days but that's because they were being stretched. Now I hardly ever wake up with a headache. I can't sleep with a regular pillow anymore, this one works so well for me. I just used a regular pillow at a vacation home because I forgot my traction pillow. I can feel the difference in my head already - yuck! I am ordering another pillow to keep here so I don't have to worry about forgetting it. The pillow is awesome. Thanks so much!!!
